Funky Menswear
I constantly hear grumbles from my male friends how difficult it is to find decent menwear in Singapore, especially with the weather constraints and lack of variety. Singapore men seems to look for only 2 things in their clothes: Comfort & Versatility. Best if they can wear the same item on different occasions, and more importantly fit the hot humid weather here in Singapore.
In love with yukata 浴衣
According to Wikipedia, “A yukata (浴衣?) is a Japanese garment,a casual summer kimono usually made of cotton. People wearing yukata are a common sight in Japan at fireworks displays, bon-odori festivals, and other summer events. The yukata is also frequently worn after bathing at traditional Japanese inns. Though their use is not limited to after-bath wear, yukata literally means bath(ing) clothes.”
As with kimono, the general rule with yukata is that younger people wear brighter colors and bolder patterns than older people. A child might wear a multicolored print and a young woman, a floral print, while an older woman would confine herself to a traditional dark blue with geometric patterns.
I tried wearing the kimono in Kyoto, during my last visit to Japan. It was a rather surreal and incredible experiencing being dressed up in the layers of fabric and walking around in the cold while wearing socks in clogs or otherwise known as geta. Because of this fun experience, I bought a yukata at the airport’s Uniqlo store without knowing when or where I can wear it in Singapore. It is in a pretty peach red with turquoise obi. If you are wondering how to wear a yukata like me, here is how.
Now that summer is in and I am reading about people’s experiences wearing the yukata, watching the hanami or celebrating Bon Odori festival, I am wondering when I am ever gonna wear my yukata.
Here are some pretty yukata on sale on the Japanese Uniqlo site
とってもかわいいですね!

Zoo-ey Des-Chanel
I can’t remember the first time I saw this quirky, whimsical actress on tv or movies. But the most memorable time I saw her was on Top Chef, 500 Days of Summer & a rerun of Failure to Launch.
I remembered the spelling of her name by spliting it up. Zoo (ey) (Des) Chanel. So to me she is Zoo Chanel. Random sidetrack
I can’t recall where I saw these pictures on, but I know I have to save it because this is exactly the kind of photography, styling that I like. abit of the 1930 flapper days or the 1950s photo treatment. Zooey Deschanel looked happy, hauntingly beautiful with her blue eyes with a tinge of grey, and every bit the strange oddball she is in the photos.
Summer Loves / 2010
Topshop, River Island, Forever21. Some of the high street brands very popular among the young females in Singapore. This summer season, I am falling in love with the vintage floral prints, long flowing maxi dresses, colourful sundresses, soft flowy fabric suitable for the sunny Singapore. So I made this comment on FB:
“Summer dresses everywhere. I want! Wait a min it is summer all year round in Singapore. So must buy MORE!”
Indeed, Singapore has the ideal climate to dress in summer dresses, shorts and flip flops all year round. However come the Sep – Feb, the shops are always selling the more muted winter collections. Hence come CNY (Chinese New Year) in Feb, I always end up buying the kind of dresses that I don’t really want to wear in summer or for the beckoning of spring.
I think I should buy more this summer to stock up for CNY. Am I nuts?

These summer dresses are my favourite picks. Interesting prints with a twist to the dresses. It’s colourful and ever so happy! & I love those shoes that are paired with the dresses

I love LV
fall/winter 2010 collection. conservatives may think flaunting the boobs is vulgar but I think showing off the curves of the women is a right that all women should enjoy.
I like the look of the models who look healthy and not overtly thin and anorexic-looking with a bouncy ponytail and carrying an updated version of the iconic LV bags with pumps with bows. This collection brought me back to the 1950s when Christian Dior’s new look was in its heyday. Love love love this collection. If the world revolves around my thoughts, all women should be wearing these this season.
